'I wasn't gonna miss it': CWS fans face problems on the road to Omaha (2024)

THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES IS AN UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT FOR EVERY TEAM AND THEIR FANS. BUT THE ROAD TO OMAHA BECAME MEMORABLE FOR OTHER REASONS. TODAY. THANKS FOR JOINING US. I’M MADDIE AUGUSTINE MANY ARE MAKING A LAST MINUTE TRIP FOR THE FINALS. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S JESSICA PEREZ CAUGHT UP WITH SOME FANS FACING PROBLEMS IN THEIR TRAVELS. SOME DELAYED FLIGHTS AND LAST MINUTE CHANGES TO TRAVEL ITINERARY. ONE MAN’S TROUBLE LED HIM TO FIND NEW FRIENDSHIPS. IT’S A SEA OF RED AND ORANGE AT THE CHARLES SCHWAB STADIUM AS TENNESSEE AND TEXAS A&M FANS WATCH THE GREATEST SHOW ON DIRT, I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. I KNOW TENNESSEE’S GOT SOME DUDES ON THEIR TEAM, SO IT’S GOING TO BE A CHALLENGE, BUT IT’LL BE GOOD FOR SOME, LIKE BRANDON BURGESS, THE ROAD TO OMAHA WASN’T EASY, AND I DON’T MEAN FOR HIS TEAM. WE PULLED OUT OF THE TERMINAL SET THERE FOR 20 MINUTES, AND THERE WERE SOME MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH THE PLANE. HIS FLIGHT WOULDN’T BE RESCHEDULED UNTIL SUNDAY, SO IT WAS TIME FOR PLAN B. THERE WAS A TENNESSEE FAN RIGHT BEHIND ME ON THE FLIGHT GOING TO OMAHA AS WELL. WE WERE OUT THERE, SAME SITUATION. WE SAID, HEY, WE ALREADY HAVE TICKETS, SO LET’S GO RENT A CAR. HE AND TWO STRANGERS DROVE TOGETHER. 13.5 HOURS LATER, HE MADE IT TO BASEBALL VILLAGE. I WASN’T GOING TO MISS IT. I’VE BEEN A LIFELONG TENNESSEE FAN. DON’T KNOW WHEN THIS OPPORTUNITY IS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. A SENTIMENT SHARED BY TENNESSEE FAN BEN SAVAGE. HE WAS FLYING OUT OF NASHVILLE, BUT HIS FLIGHT WAS DELAYED, SO HE GOT STUCK IN CHICAGO OVERNIGHT. THEN HIS CONNECTING FLIGHT CHANGED. WE GOT REROUTED TO KANSAS CITY INSTEAD OF LINCOLN, AND FROM KANSAS CITY, WE HAD TO DRIVE THREE HOURS RENT A CAR WHILE THE TRIP TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED, HE’S GLAD HE GOT TO WATCH THE VOLS, BUT IT WAS JUST A LITTLE FRUSTRATING. NOT EXACTLY WHAT WE PLANNED, BUT YEAH, HAPPY TO BE HERE. TEXAS A&M FAN GABE HURLEY FOUND HIMSELF CATCHING A RIDE WITH HIS PARENTS AFTER MISSING HIS FLIGHT IN NEW ORLEANS. THE AIRPORT HAD SOME PARKING PROBLEMS, SO GOT THERE AN HOUR AND A HALF EARLY. ENDED UP MISSING MY FLIGHT. SO I FLEW TO SAINT LOUIS, WHERE MY PARENTS PICKED ME UP ON THE WAY HERE. NOW HE OWES HIS DAD A BEER FOR BEARING THE BURDEN OF AN EIGHT HOUR DRIVE A LITTLE BIT, YEAH, MAYBE A FEW. AND IF YOU’RE FLYING OUT OF OMAHA IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, EPPLEY AIRFIELD WARNS THERE WILL BE MORE PEOPLE THAN USUAL AS THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES ENDS. THEY ADVISE YOU TO ARRIVE HOURS BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT. YOU CAN CHECK PARKING AND SECURITY WAIT TIMES ON THE LINK
