Does a mandatory power once the old league is gone put its mandate under the trusteeship system or does it merely say: "The old league is dead Tire mandate arrangement died with it Therefore we put our man date under trusteeship mere ly scrap the mandate set up and take full possession of this man date which we have been admin istering" All Have Title Suppose Britain tried to say that about Palestine The catch is that the United States Britain Italy and Japan all have Palestine Of course Italy and have anything to say about it They were United States in this war At the peace be forced to give up any title to mandates of the irst World war That will leave only the United States Britain and rance with joint title to mandated territory Another meeting of the old league of nations may be necessary to clear up some of the problems involving the mandated territory of World War I although the United States belong to that league' But again for another example: pose the old league straight en out the mandate problem and suppose Britain want to put Palestine under trusteeship If that happens she'll have to negotiate with this country and rance since both countries have equal title with Britain to Palestine This might give the diplomats a few gray hairs trying to work it out Eventually it might be a prob lem for the new world court But at any rate it seems likely that the old
