THE CALLE OCHE EXPERIENCE – It doesn’t get more Miami than this. Get to know historic Calle Ocho with your own personal guide. You’ll see the Latin Walk of Fame, see locals in Domino Park, visit a traditional Cuban cigar shop, hear the sounds of Latin Music, learn about Cuban history and enjoy popular Cuban food. SOUTH FLORIDA ADVENTURE PASS – This will enable you to have unlimited admissions to four popular attractions in Broward County: Butterfly World, Flamingo Gardens, the Museum of Discovery and Science and the Sawgrass Recreation Center. The pass for people 13 and over is $60 and for people under 13 the cost is $50.

JOURNEY TO SPACE – Far out, man! We mean really far out. Through interactive exhibits and authentic objects, you’ll be transported to the International Space Station. The highlight of this museum exhibit is the full-scale, climb-aboard replica of the Destiny Lab, the heart of U.S. research on the International Space Station. You will experience a simulated zero gravity environment while astronauts share their experiences by way of a virtual tour.

FLORA & FAUNA: EARLY NATURALISTS IN FLORIDA –This exhibit includes short biographies of the principal naturalists working in the Florida Territory in the early 1800s and representations of their Florida-inspired works, including John James Audubon and Thomas Nuttall. Their observations of plants and animals were an art as well a science. The work of these naturalists made the Florida Territory a destination (despite the primitive travel conditions to get there) for People interested nature-centric recreation, such as hunting, fishing and bird watching.

SPACE EXPLORERS: THE INFINITE – This 60-minute journey will take guests 250 miles from Earth and allow them to roam freely inside a full-scale 3D replica of the International Space Station, float in space next to astronauts and look at beautiful visions of our planet – all without leaving the ground. Adding to the experience, explorers will witness the astronauts’ conquests first hand, including the first-ever spacewalk captured in 3D.

BEACHES, CREATURES & COWBOYS: FLORIDA MOVIE POSTERS – For a short time in the 20th century, Florida rivaled California as a place for movie making. The 40 classic posters that form this exhibit include artwork for Beneath the 12 Mile Reef, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Cocoon, Flipper and Operation Petticoat and feature such actors and actresses as Esther Williams, Gregory Peck, Betty Grable, Spencer Tracy, Jessica Tandy, Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Steve Martin, Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and Jim Carrey.

REEF LIONFISH DERBY & FESTIVAL – Here’s a chance go diving in the beautiful waters off the Florida Keys and also do a solid for the reefs. Lionfish are in an invasive species and they are endangering the Keys reefs. There is a captain’s meeting the first night, followed by two days of going after them, and then an event-ending Lionfish Festival, with tournament scoring, awards, fillet and dissection demonstrations, lionfish tastings (they are delicious table fare), games and other activities that are open to the public as well as derby competitors.

WILD FLORIDA -- This summer exhibition highlights the beauty of the Florida Everglades and other wildlife and untamed beauty locations. Tim Forman is the featured artist. He uses field sketches, plein air paintings and photographs to compose his pieces that are painted in layers with both brush and knife. Other artists in the exhibit are Stephanie McMillan, Kim Heise, Rosemary Fineberg and Stephanie Leyden.

RUM FEST KEY WEST -- If rum is one of your libations of choice, this one is for you. Some of the best rums and rum makers from around the world will be featured in this five-day event. Some of the activities include sunset sails, co*cktail parties, sandbar trips, rum strolls, food and cigar events, a rum cake competition, master class rum seminars and a rum grand tasting.

MIAMI SPICE – It’s not one, but two full months (August and September) of fantastic dining at some 200 restaurants and bistros. Three-course menus will be offered for lunches, brunches and dinners. Lunches and brunches will be $30 and $35 and $45 to $60for dinner.

MIAMI BEACH KIZOMBA FESTIVAL -- It aims to bridge the gap between Africa and African diaspora by sharing music, dance and culture of various African countries. Included will be pool parties with famed DJs, dance workshops and rousing concerts. This is the 10th and final year for this festival.

FAMILY SUMMER SPECIAL AT BONNET HOUSE MUSEUM & GARDENS – If you haven’t yet visited this South Florida treasure, now would be the perfect time. AMERICAN INDIAN DAY CELEBRATION – It’s actually two days for this family-friendly festival. You will be able to connect with the Miccosukees, Miami’s original locals, and get a glimpse into the tribe’s culture and traditions. There will be indigenous craft and food vendors, a petting zoo, a fashion show, carnival rides, alligator wrestling shows and airboat rides.

BALLOON WORLD’S LET’S FLY –After entertaining people of all ages in Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London and New York, this amazing exhibit is now in Miami. You’ll see 20 astonishing out-of-scale inflatable installations created by renowned international artists. The immersive artworks will stimulate your senses through touch, sight and sound.

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW – There will be more than one million square feet of everything automotive, including new cars, trucks, SUVs, electric vehicles and crossovers. Attendees will be able to participate in a number of interactive experiences (including test drives) and there will be classic cars that look like they came right out of a museum. New this year: Indoor EV test tracks. They will give attendees the opportunity to experience the cutting-edge advancements of the newest and most innovative EV brands, all from inside the vehicles themselves.

HEROES SALUTE TRIBUTE WEEKEND – This Labor Day Weekend bash honors military, fire and rescue, law enforcement and medical personnel and offers a whole lot of fun for all attendees, including moving tributes to the heroes, fireworks, live music, great food, a 5K run/walk, games and contests.

  • Delray Beach Restaurant Month – Discover the diverse dining scene in downtown Delray Beach in this 30-day foodie fest. Enjoy prix fixe menus at special prices for lunches and dinners at about 40 restaurants, cafes and casual eateries, including new establishments that that have opened in the last year. ISLAND HOPPER SONGWRITER FEST – Behind many great country music hits, there is often another outstanding singer/songwriter who wrote the tune. Get to know the back stories behind country’s biggest hits and see them performed by the writers. The headliners are Scotty McCreery, Jeffrey Steele, Kristian Bush, Kashi Aston and Shane Proffit. There are some 75 other performers, too. With a quick trip through Google, you’ll be surprised to learn how many country music hits they wrote and/or the famous artists with whom they have performed.

ORANGE BLOSSOM CLASSIC WEEK – This year’s Historically Black College and University (HBCU) football game pits North Carolina Central against Alabama State. But it is way more than just a game. Like all HBCU games, the off-the-field activities are always worthy of the price of admission. They include a pickleball tournament, a career recruitment fair, a kickoff luncheon, a battle of the bands, a game-day fan fest and the extraordinary Stompdown, a national step show featuring elite teams from elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and college fraternities and independents.

INFFINITO BRAZILIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF MIAMI – The 28th version of this fest will have eight days of in-person screenings and six weeks of virtual events. The in-person movies will compete for the prestigious Crystal Lens Award for the best new Brazilian film. It will be announced at the Closing Awards night. The festival also includes live talks, concerts, panels with industry experts and masterclasses.

The first part of the program (co*cktails & Crafts) is a Friday night party featuring local independent makers and upcycling enthusiasts. Saturday is Upcycle Day, with workshops offering great upcycling tips.

THE HORRORLAND – Get an early start on the Halloween haunting season, although this scary show might not be for everyone. A bigger and scarier version of this horror-fest will be offered this year. It includes five terrifying haunted houses, eight outdoor scare zones, a fear gift ship, the coffin bar, the macabre food village and the spine-tingling Freak Cirque show.

INDIE NOIR MARKET – August is Black Business Month, and this grassroots “Melanated Merchant Marketplace” curates a vast array of black-owned businesses, from tasty treats to artwork to clothing, all aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and artisans in the community. Set on the edge of downtown Tampa in a historic park – and also home to Tampa’s first and oldest thriving African American neighborhood – shoppers and browsers of all ages can enjoy live music, an eclectic Art Walk and a fun kids zone.

SURREAL NIGHTS AT THE DALI – Now as a part of The Dalí Museum’s regular events series, this iconic St. Petersburg architectural gem keeps its doors open after-hours for this special monthly event featuring a live DJ, lights, dancing, mingling and some specialty “surreal” co*cktails served at the Café Gala. Guests can also enjoy a reduced admission to enjoy the museum’s permanent collection of more than 2,400 Salvador Dalí works, as well as the current special exhibition, Reimagining Nature: Dalí’s Floral Fantasies.

FLORIDA KIDS AND FAMILY EXPO – This back-to-school event provides a large, air-conditioned space where children can play, ride ponies, create, discover, eat, explore and have fun while you gather new ideas about exciting programs for all ages from more than 200 vendors. Kids can also take photos with their favorite princesses, superheroes and Star Wars characters. GECKO CRAWL, GECKO BALL & GECKOFEST– Leading up to Gulfport’s famously wacky and colorful Gecko Fest, this small waterfront town gets ready to honor its unofficial mascot and mark the end of summer with a lineup of August events. It starts with an evening bar crawl including a poker run with prizes, followed by the Gecko Ball that includes dancing, live music and a Gecko Queen Coronation. The month ends with Gecko Fest, which features a costume parade for both humans and pets. This year’s theme is “Live From Gulfport, It’s Gecko Night,” drawing inspiration from Saturday Night Live … think Coneheads, the Church Lady, Wayne’s World and other memorable characters from the shows comedy skits throughout the past few decades.

NPR FOURTH FRIDAY BAZAAR – Formerly known as the “Backyard Bazaar,” this popular evening market now takes place every fourth Friday in downtown New Port Richey, opening just before sundown and winding down about an hour after dark. Find unique home goods, gifts, clothing, jewelry, used books, homemade candles, woodwork furniture and wall art, gourmet jams and honey, pottery, plants and more, all sold by local and regional artists and crafters.

TAMPA THEATRE SUMMER CLASSICS MOVIE SERIES – If you’re looking for a cool, dark escape from the summer heat, head to the beautiful and iconic Tampa Theatre, a historic landmark that revives the oldies each year during its Summer Classics series. Revisit old scenes you forgot, silently recite your favorite lines while you munch on popcorn and reminisce with old favorites. August’s showings include “Casablanca,” “The Princess Bride,” and a popular time travel experience watching early 1900s silent comedy films with live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.

SIPS & SALSA FESTIVAL – Every fall, this small city west of Orlando hosts this colorful, vibrant lakefront celebration of food, family and music, aimed at highlighting the community’s diverse business landscape and people. Cheer on your favorite pup in the Chihuahua races or enter your own in the dog costume contest and let the little ones loose in the kids’ zone. Vendors and food trucks will be selling tacos, ice cream, cold beverages and other treats while you stroll through the park or pitch a picnic under a tree.

FLORIDARAMA ARTWALK AFTER DARK – The second Saturday of each month, St. Petersburg’s immersive, mind-bending FloridaRAMA museum and the St. Pete Arts Alliance host an after-dark experience geared toward night owl art lovers and adventure seekers. The all-ages gallery features unique works from more than 70 artists who created Florida-focused dioramas, scenes and sculptures guests can interact with, plus Artwalk after Dark includes live music and a beer and wine bar until 11 p.m.

I LIKE IT HOT! FESTIVAL – For nearly a quarter of a century, the I Like It HOT! Festival has been bringing the heat and has grown to become a Florida favorite among spicy food lovers and hot sauce connoisseurs. This kid- and pet-friendly pepper-palooza includes amateur hot sauce and salsa competitions, hoola hoop contests, a spicy sucker lick-a-thon, a spectator-favorite pepper-eating contest and other fun contests. There are also beer and other beverage tents, live music, spice vendors and food trucks serving tacos, BBQ and other more tame treats.

TARPON SPRINGS SPONGE DOCKS CRAFT FESTIVAL – Florida’s favorite little Greek town hosts a free arts & crafts fair, featuring more than 100 vendors selling jewelry, artwork, clothing, plants, soaps, purses, sculptures, glasswork, gifts, snacks, and of course, sponges harvested straight from the sea. In between shopping, stop into one of the many authentic Greek bakeries, cafes and restaurants serving house-made baklava, gyros, Tarpon Springs-style Greek salad, freshly caught seafood and other delicious dishes.

XINSURANCE CLEARWATER OFFSHORE NATIONALS – Drawing tens of thousands of onlookers, this three-day offshore power boat showcase and competition is set along the white, sandy shores of beautiful Clearwater Beach and promises some thrilling sights, good music and fast action for boat lovers of all ages. Meet the race teams and get drivers’ autographs, join the two-mile viewing flotilla with your own boat, enjoy fresh seafood and other regional cuisine or hit the rooftop dance party. Watch the Gulf of Mexico sunset at Pier 60 after a day of exciting racing with some of the world’s fastest boats.

SUNSET AT THE ZOO HISPANIC CULTURAL CELEBRATION– The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens caps off its summertime Sunset at the Zoo series with music, food and special activities that honor Hispanic culture and heritage. After the zoo closes for the day, the gates reopen for guests who can enjoy an evening stroll to explore the animal exhibits, grab some dinner from a food truck, enjoy lively DJ mixes and make some kid-friendly crafts and art projects until the sun goes down.

FALL FAMILY FEST – Celebrating the start of the fall school and sports season, the Tampa Bay Moms Group and Heights Soccer Tots are hosting this event to connect families through interactive exhibits, character visits, vendors sharing info and resources for children’s classes and programs, as well as plenty of food trucks, games and other attractions. GLOBAL PEACE FILM FESTIVAL – Aiming to inspire change, educate and promote conversations about peace, activism, acts of bravery and historical events, the Global Peace Festival has curated a variety films and filmmaker discussions throughout the Orlando area. Among some of the short film and documentary topics are Harry Belafonte’s social justice mission, animal rescue efforts in Ukraine, a successful environmental activist movement in North Carolina and palm oil harvesting in Indonesia. For those who can’t make the in-person viewings, a virtual version of the festival will be available.

SOUNDS OF SUMMER CONCERT SERIES – What better way to wrap up the waning days of late summer than with some rock-n-roll along the Atlantic Ocean shore? The Daytona Beach Bandshell offers free concerts featuring tribute bands mimicking the tunes of Elton John, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and other classic rock favorites. AMELIA ISLAND DANCE FESTIVAL, Amelia Island

BECOMING FLORIDA’S CAPITAL —Sprinkle a little bit of Sunshine State history into your adventures with a visit to this temporary exhibit tied to Tallahassee’s bicentennial celebration. ‘Becoming Florida’s Capital’ takes visitors on a journey through the historical actions and power struggle that defined the city’s past and eventually led to Governor William Duval announcing it as the new state capital on March 4, 1824. Guests can explore at their own pace any time, or attend one of the staff-led tours on either July 19 or August 16. Staff-led tours are free but require registration in advance.

  • Project Atrium: Frank Stella (through Nov. 3): For six decades, Frank Stella has been a renowned painter, printmaker and sculptor. To mark the 100th anniversary, Stella was commissioned to create a sculpture for the museum. The finished work, “Jacksonville Stacked Stars” rises two stories in the museum’s atrium. The museum also is showing a collection of Stella’s prints from their permanent collection with others on loan from local collectors.
  • A Century of Contemporary (Sept. 5 - Jan. 12): This special exhibit which closes out the museum’s anniversary celebration traces the museum’s history from its beginnings, as founded by a group of female visionaries, to its period as an art guild; to its new name, new home and the place it occupies today in Jacksonville’s art scene.

HOT NIGHTS, COOL MUSIC —Live, outdoor music fests in the Sunshine State undergo a mini hibernation during the hottest part of the summer. But even with the festival scene going underground until what “Floridians” call fallwhich is basically a slightly less hot version of summerarrives, “The Amp” stays rocking. St. Augustine’s outdoor concert venue, a favorite of locals from Jax to Palm Coast, features mainly covered seats, a dense tree canopy and light ocean breezes. August’s lineup includes Straight No Chaser with special guests Chris Kirkpatrick and O-Town (Aug. 2); The Help From My Friends Summer Tour with Switchfoot, Blue October and Matt Nathanson (Aug. 3); UB40 (Aug. 10); the 311 Unity Tour with Awolnation and Neon Trees (Aug. 17); Charley Crockett (Aug. 26) and Crowded House (Aug. 29).

  • An Evening Under the Stars (Aug. 24, Pensacola): Big Lagoon State Park boasts dark skies along the gulf coast perfect for stargazing. Clear skies permitting, the Escambia Amateur Astronomer Association will set up telescopes and bring binoculars so guests can catch clear views of the moon, planets and other celestial bodies. To limit light pollution, all participants must be parked prior to sunset (the park’s closing time). FLORIDA SKIMBOARDING PRO/AM TOURNAMENT —See some of the world’s best skimboarders glide across the Atlantic Ocean’s surface during the annual pro-am event. The Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am is the only amateur event in the world and gives athletes two chances to advance before elimination. Spectators will watch some of the world’s best, representing more than 75 different beaches, take on northeast Florida’s waves during two full days of skim-boarding heats. 4TH ANNUAL BEE FRIENDS FARM HOST HONEYBEE FESTIVAL —Don’t miss the buzz! Budding beekeepers will enjoy this chance to learn about the secret and not-so-secret lives of bees for National Honey Bee Day. The annual fest includes hourly beekeeping talks by experts from local beekeepers associations about the honey-making process, backyard beekeeping and more. The Buzy Bee Marketplace features over 60 vendors and a hands-on education annex engages kids with bee biology lessons and planting sessions. Also includes food trucks, honey tastings and more.

EPIC DOG DAYS —This competition for man’s best friend gives the “dog days of summer” new meaning. Fans are invited to cheer on their favorite canine competitors during three days of tail-wagging fun. FLORIDA SCALLOP, MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL —Celebrate Labor Day weekend by dining on freshly harvested St. Joseph’s Bay scallops while enjoying two days of live music. The festival lineup includes Blackcat Zydeco featuring Dwight Carrier, Jason Byrd, Eden Brent, Blue Mother Tupelo, The Funky Taters and more. KAYAK ECO TOUR — Florida’s state parks offer hundreds of ranger-led events throughout the season, but most are land only and involve walking. Guests willing to “suit up” can enjoy a 90-minute, leisurely paddle on Lake Powell, the largest coastal dune lake in North America. During the paddle, attendees will learn about the lake’s history and why the wildlife community the area supports is not only unique, but important to the state’s natural water system. All guests must be at least 12 years old and able to independently navigate their own kayak. Space is limited and reservations are required. The registration fee includes kayak rental, life jacket, paddle and park entrance fee.

BULLS ON THE BEACH — Texas meets Florida by way of Alabama for the Flora-Bama’s annual rodeo spectacular that stages a full-scale, beachfront rodeo. Instead of a fairground, contestants and spectators have a gulf-front view of professional bull riders grasping their broken-in saddles for three days of competitive action in the sugar-soft sand. Thursday night also includes a kids coloring contest, where one boy and girl have the opportunity to win a bike.

AMELIA ISLAND DANCE FESTIVAL — Fall in love with movement during Amelia Island’s four-day celebration of dance in all its forms. The festival’s seven live performances will feature top national, regional and local talent in a variety of styles including modern (NYC’s East by North Dance Theatre and Carlos & Marisa Garland), athletic jazz (Jon Lehrer Dance Company of Buffalo, New York), Broadway (singer/dancer John Manzari), tap (Rhythm Theory Tap Ensemble of Orlando), classical (The Florida Ballet) and jazz (Kilowatt Dance Company of NYC and the Atlanta Dance Company). During the day, many of the performers will also lead dance workshops in various styles like ballroom, hip hop, hula, Latin, breakdancing, jazz, belly dancing, tap, ballet and more.

FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATION — Be a witness to the past when the Mission Nombre de Dios reenacts the landing of Spanish Admiral Pedro Menedez in St. Augustine on Sept. 8, 1565. The city’s annual celebration commemorates the first greeting between the Spaniards and the native Timucuan tribes. The day’s events include the landing, an outdoor Catholic mass at the Mission’s rustic altar and a reenactment of the first Thanksgiving meal at Fountain of Youth Park.

FLORIDA FIN FEST — Northeast Florida’s two-day fest is part educational with a focus on ocean conservation and part live music celebration. The fest’s Education Village features hands-on, family-friendly learning that includes an immersive, underwater VR experience, touch tanks from Jacksonville University and guest speakers and scientists who will focus on sustainability, conservation and environmentally-friendly practices. The live music line-up includes St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Flipturn, Paco Versailles and Vincent Antone as headliners. The free event also includes food trucks and vendors.

SING OUT LOUD MUSIC FEST — St. Augustine’s multi-act, multi-genre, multi-venue live music festival’s main event — the Live Wildly Showcase — takes place at Francis Field, the city’s downtown destination for large-scale parties. Eric Church and Noah Kahan are headlining the festival on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Church will be joined by Ryan Bingham with the Texas Gentlemen, JJ Grey & Mofro, Ole 60, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, The Breeders and Tre Burt. Norah Jones, Marcus King, Sierra Ferrell, Kevin Morby and Nat & Alex Wolff join Kahan. Bookending the Live Wildly Showcase are a handful of free performances and more music-themed fun like St. Augustine Record Fair (Sept. 15) and the St. Augustine Songwriters Festival (Sept 27-29).

SMOKIN’ IN THE PINES BBQ FESTIVAL — Southern rock and country music provide the background jams for traveling BBQ teams ready to rock their fire pits while competing for over $15,000 in cash and prizes. Although the Open BBQ Competition is the moneymaker for the winning grillmasters with a $10K prize purse, the Sauces of Honor competition is perfect for home cooks looking for a little love, validation and part of the share of the $1,000 prize purse. AKC PALS & PAWS AGILITY TRIALS What has four paws, a nose for trouble and the ability to “fly” through an obstacle course with tire jumps and weave poles?   • 47th Annual Panacea Blue Crab Festival (Panacea, Sept. 28): Since 1975, locals have paused on the last Saturday and September to feast on the blue crab bounty harvested from their waterfront community. The event includes a parade along U.S. Hwy 98, live music, clog dancing, arts and craft vendors and a Blue Crab Pickin’ Contest.
