Which actors and characters will appear in The Rings of Power? (2024)

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will soon take us back to Middle-earth, and it looks like this new chapter will be even bigger and better than the last.

The Rings of Power, a popular Prime Video series, was a huge success in 2022, quickly becoming the most-watched show in the streaming service’s history and the most expensive program ever produced. Adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy books into a TV show was a daunting task, but despite the challenges, the series has captured audiences’ attention with its first season.

Starring alongside Galadriel, Nori, the Stranger, Elrond, and Durin as “arguably the principal protagonist,” The Rings of Power season 2 begins with Celebrimbor. In a print feature, the showrunners confirmed to Total Film that the information regarding Celebrimbor is true and that season 2 focuses on Sauron and tells his story in a way that has never been seen before. A dramatic season that unites Rings of Power’s plotlines is ensured by Sauron, who serves as the unifying element connecting the series’ numerous characters’ disparate narratives.

You must be familiar with the Second Age’s major characters to follow the plot. You’ll recognize a few characters: The ages of Middle-earth are spanned by the everlasting lives of elves.

Some characters may be well-known to readers of Tolkien’s works because they are mentioned in the book’s appendices, which summarize the Second Age’s events. Some characters are entirely new, and how they’ll fit into the plot is unclear.

Here’s everyone you need to know before you watch the show.

About The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

1. Morfydd Clark as Galadriel

In Peter Jackson’s version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, a young Cate Blanchett immortalized the role of Galadriel. She played a strong and occasionally terrifying elf who aided Frodo in leading him on his quest to destroy the ring in that film. It’s no small accomplishment that she resisted the urge to accept the potent object when Frodo held it out.

Since elves never die, Galadriel, played by Clark, appears much younger in The Rings of Power. She is far more brash and thousands of years younger than Blanchett’s portrayal. The program is expected to depict her transformation into the astute stateswoman we encounter in The Lord of the Rings.

She is a formidable warrior at the start of the series, driven to exact revenge for her brother’s death, which occurred during a battle with Sauron and his goons. She searches Middle-earth for the missing Sauron.

2. Charlie Vickers as Halbrand

A new character named Halbrand has been created for The Rings of Power. Galadriel meets the mysterious man, a mortal who is running from his past. Since Halbrand seems a fairly important character and was never mentioned in Tolkien’s works, many fans have already started theorizing that he might be hiding his identity.

Furthermore, the “mysterious background” description should cause you to pause. Moreover, Tolkien was not particularly fond of coincidences. In his stories, people usually meet by fate. He must hint that he has a bigger role in the struggle between good and evil by tripping over Galadriel.

3. Robert Aramayo as Elrond

Fans of the Lord of the Rings will be familiar with Elrond, the half-man, half-elf ruler of Rivendell, the home of the elves. Hugo Weaving portrayed Elrond in the Jackson trilogy.

In the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, Elrond engages in combat with Sauron’s army and is crucial in deciding what will happen to the ring. He will assist Frodo in destroying the object thousands of years from now.

However, Elrond was a statesman serving the elf High King Gil-Galad before he became a military leader and gave birth to his daughter, Arwen. Early in the show, he is sent on a mission to meet with his old friend Prince Durin IV in the dwarf kingdom of Kazad-dûm.

4. Benjamin Walker as High King Gil-galad

The first few minutes of Fellowship of the Ring gave fans of the Lord of the Rings a quick glimpse at Mark Ferguson’s character, High King Gil-Galad. This battle features Gil-Galad, who, along with Elendil, formed the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Most people would agree that he is the most significant Second Age elf. Gil-Galad rules the elf kingdom of Lindon in the show.

5. Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor

Celebrimbor, the elf smith duped into forging the rings of power by a disguised Sauron, will be recognizable to readers and fans of the well-liked video games Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor.

The entire program rests on his invention. Thus, there is a lot of dramatic irony in Celebrimbor’s longing to create powerful objects when he appears in the early Rings of Power episodes.

6. Maxim Baldry as Isildur

The one who succeeds in severing Sauron’s finger’s ring is Isildur. He is unable to destroy the ring itself, though. When Lord of the Rings takes place in the Third Age, Sauron can rise again due to that failure. Aragorn, an Isildur descendant in the films, worries that, like his ancestor, he will reveal his frailty as a human in the face of overwhelming evil.

Even though Isildur’s story is tragic, he did achieve some positive things. Alongside his brother Anárion, he established and governed Gondor. He assisted in leading the battle against Sauron alongside his father and Gil-Galad. When we first meet him in the show, he is merely a sailor and not yet a leader of men.

7. Lloyd Owen as Elendil

Elendil, Isildur’s father, was instrumental in the struggle against Sauron. His name means “Elf Friend” in translation, and he joined forces with the elves to prevent the great evil from proliferating throughout Middle-earth. He is a ship captain and tries to control his adult children’s tempers when we first meet him in the series.

8. Owain Arthur as Prince Durin IV

King Durin III, Durin’s father, controls the dwarf nation of Khazad-dûm. As you may remember, near the end of Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf faced a Balrog in the mines of a destroyed Khazad-dûm (later known as Moria). However, the underground kingdom thrives in the Second Age because of the wealth concealed in the mountain where the dwarves live.

9. Sophia Nomvete as Princess Disa

The first female dwarf ever portrayed in a Tolkien adaptation is Disa, Durin’s wife. She is among the many dwarves who sing to the mountain to learn its mysteries.

10. Ismael Cruz Cordova as Arondir

Arondir is a fictional elf created for the program. As a Silvan Elf, as opposed to a High Elf, he is more attuned to the natural world and less concerned with show and circ*mstance. Where Mirkwood and Lothlórien eventually become home to the Silvan Elves.

Arondir is a soldier in love with Bronwyn, a human, when we first meet him. As you may remember from the romance between Aragorn and Arwen, human-elf relationships are taboo in Middle-earth. Any relationship between humans and elves will inevitably end tragically because humans are mortal and elves are not. The teasers have revealed that Arondir will eventually have to fight many orcs.

11. Nazanin Boniadi as Bronwyn

Theo is the only child of Bronwyn, a healer. Their residence is called Tirharad, which means “near Harad.” That is not good news for her people since Harad is a mysterious region south of Mordor. Maybe that’s why Arondir encounters orcs, as well as maybe Bronwyn.

12. Tyroe Muhafidin as Theo

Theo is another show creation; he is Bronwyn’s son. Interestingly, in the television series trailers, he appears to be a broken sword with eerie Mordor vibes. It’s still unclear what the weapon is and how Theo got it—possibly from his unnamed father.

13. Markella Kavenagh as Nori Brandyfoot

What would a Lord of the Rings show be without hobbits, or at least creatures that are close to hobbits? One of the hobbits’ nomadic ancestors, Nori is a harfoot. Tolkien’s book “Concerning Hobbits” contains information on harfoots.

Nori might not be included in the great histories of Middle-earth because harfoots hide from humans and other animals. However, she plays a significant part in the program. With a strong desire to explore, she finds a stranger who has fallen from the sky on a meteor and promises to assist him in getting back to his people.

14. Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Queen Regent Míriel

An important site in Rings of Power will be the island nation of Númenor, governed by humans with half-elven ancestry. Among the men of Númenor are Aragorn, Boromir, and Faramir. However, Númenor has fallen by the time of The Lord of the Rings: In Fellowship of the Ring, our heroes briefly sail through its ruins. However, the land is still formidable in Rings of Power.

Queen Regent Míriel rules the land at the start of the show. However, her people are divided and restless about the kingdom’s future. Additionally, Pharazôn is a man with some unique ideas.

15. Daniel Weyman as The Stranger

A shadowy man hits a meteor and falls from the sky. It’s unclear where he came from because he doesn’t speak Nori’s tongue but appears to have some magical abilities. The showrunners have given him the moniker The Stranger, but they have not revealed his identity.

Until proven otherwise, I will automatically assume that anyone using magic in this show is a wizard. This is just pure conjecture on my part. In theory, Gandalf and Saruman did not arrive in Middle-earth until the Third Age, based on Tolkien’s writings. However, it’s possible—if not likely—that the show’s writers would figure out how to include such a well-liked character.
